Method
- Start by seasoning the beef steaks with salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste. Set aside.
- Peel and crush the garlic cloves. In a non-stick frying pan, melt 15g of butter over medium heat.
- Add the crushed garlic to the pan and let it fry lightly for about 1 minute, without letting it burn.
- Increase the heat to medium-high and place the steaks in the pan. Cook for 1–2 minutes on each side, depending on the thickness of the steak and your preference (rare, medium or well done).
- Remove the steaks from the pan and keep them on a plate, covered to keep warm.
- Cut the rolls in half, if necessary, and lightly toast them in the same pan where you cooked the steaks, making use of the juices and flavour left behind. You can add the remaining 15g of butter to toast the bread, if you prefer.
- Assemble the sandwiches: place a steak inside each toasted roll.
- Serve immediately, accompanied, for example, by chips or a simple salad.
Shopping tip
At Continente or Pingo Doce you can find beef steaks already cut thinly, ideal for steak sandwiches, in the butcher section. At Lidl, watch the weekly promotions for butter and fresh bread.
