  1. Soften onion and garlic in olive oil. Brown the ground beef. Stir in chili powder, cumin and oregano.
  2. Add canned tomatoes, tomato paste, kidney beans, water, salt and black pepper. Simmer 15 minutes. Scatter cheddar cheese over the chili.
  3. Mix cornmeal, flour, baking powder, egg, milk and melted butter into a batter. Spoon over the cheddar.
  4. Bake at 200C for 20 to 25 minutes until the cornbread is golden. Spoon into bowls and serve.
