Method

  1. Cook the Japanese short-grain rice. Mix soy sauce, sake, mirin and sugar for the warishita.
  2. Heat vegetable oil. Sear a few slices of thinly sliced beef, then pour in half the warishita.
  3. Add cabbage, mushrooms, firm tofu and spring onion. Simmer until the vegetables wilt.
  4. Add the remaining beef and warishita. Cook until the beef is just done.
  5. Taste for salt. Serve with the rice.

Shopping tip

Vaca fatiada fina (freeze and slice). Tofu firme, couve, cogumelos, cebolinho. Molho de soja, mirin, saque e açúcar are the warishita. Bottled sukiyaki sauce is a specialty item. No shirataki.
