Method

  1. Start by seasoning the pork cubes with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Leave to marinate for about 10 minutes.
  2. Preheat a grill or a heavy griddle on medium-high heat for 5 minutes.
  3. Place the pork cubes on the hot grill, taking care not to overcrowd so they cook evenly.
  4. Grill the pork cubes for 4 to 6 minutes on each side, until well browned and cooked through. Cooking time may vary depending on the thickness of the cubes.
  5. While the pork grills, prepare the rice. In a pan, add the rice and twice the amount of water (600ml for 300g of rice), season with salt.
  6. Bring the water to the boil, reduce the heat to the lowest setting, cover and cook for 12-15 minutes, or until the water is completely absorbed and the rice is tender.
  7. Wash and prepare the salad according to your taste, using fresh leaves and other vegetables if you wish.
  8. Remove the pork cubes from the grill and let them rest for 2-3 minutes before serving, so the juices redistribute.
  9. Serve the grilled pork cubes immediately, accompanied by the fluffy rice and the fresh salad.
  10. Enjoy your homemade Portuguese meal!

Shopping tip

For fresh, good-quality pork cubes, look for the weekly promotions at the butcher counter in Continente or Pingo Doce, where they often have fresh pork offering good value for money.
